Shrewsbury Fire Department provides fire protection throughout the
corporate limits of the City. Services are provided from one fire
station manned by 18 full time firefighter of which 15 are
licensed paramedics. The Department rates “4” by the Insurance
Services Organization, among ratings ranging from 1-10 with 1
being the highest.
This rating is based on several factors,
including the number of firefighters and their training, response
time, fire fighting equipment, the City’s water systems and fire
prevention programs of the Department. The Department sponsors
fire prevention and safety programs including blood pressure
testing, free smoke detectors as well as installation. All
departments in the St. Louis metropolitan are part of a mutual aid
program in which assistance and equipment is provided by a fire
department of another community in the event and emergency
warrants such aid.
Our mission is to provide fire
prevention, fire protection and emergency medical services to our
citizens in a timely, professional, and cost efficient manner.
The City of Shrewsbury Fire
Department conducts fire prevention inspections of all commercial,
multi-family, institutional and educational buildings on a regular
basis. We provide free smoke detectors and free installation.
Conduct fire drills and fire prevention education in schools and
businesses. We offer public fire education materials and programs
to citizen and civic groups. It is also our duty to provide
superior emergency medical (Ambulance services). In addition we
will provide blood pressure testing, health screenings programs
and CPR/First Aid training. We will conduct home fire safety
inspections and fire prevention as well as fire extinguisher
training for area businesses. We will enforce code compliance in
new and renovated structures through plan review and inspections.
The City of Shrewsbury will conduct training in the latest
firefighting and disaster mitigation techniques.
